Ok dumb question, what pins do you use to power your fan, I am using 2 of the pins on the 4 pin header but the fan doesn’t shut down when I power off, is there 2 pins that powers off with the motherboard so you don’t have to unplug the unit ? Ps please give a good location to use as I’m an old guy with 63 year old eyes. Thanks Watermanjim1

We are also using the 2 of the pins on the 4 pin header.
I'm afraid that there is no such pin can meet your demands. :cry:

HI there!

I finally joined the LattePanda community.
I got a 4/64gb version of the board.
First thing I noticed that the board gets very hot when watching videos or doing any other CPU demanding stuff.
However I didn't find any good heatsink for effective passive cooling, so I decided to design my own.

I created a prototype design

As you can see the heatsink should be the same size as the LP board and have mounting holes located on the same places as the board, so it would be possible to secure the LP and the heatsink to a diy base or case using screws or longer standoffs.

The heatsink should have fairly large fins for effective heat dissipation.

The material in the central part of the heatsink bottom should be routed out leaving only contact points for CPU and other chips. The mounting holes have something similar to legs, which should provide airflow and This will provide airflow and ensure there is no contact between the heatsink and the contact points on the board.
The heatsink should be placed on the CPU directly using thermal adhesive or thermal conductive tape.

You can find a ZIP file with STL and OBJ files in the attachments.

Unfortunately I'm not a professional heatsink designer so I don't know how to calculate the correct dimensions of the fins on the heatsink so it would be as efficient as possible.

If there are any people here who know how to it I can update the design using correct dimensions and share the files with you so everyone could make one using a CNC machine

@fender90, this is sooooo... coool... I'm not good at mechanical design. So how can I build my own heatsink like you've shared your design file from local vendor. Is there any note for that!!!!!?

This is just a prototype design. I didn't to much calculations on the fins size and distance from each other. Usually when a heatsink is design it should have exact proportions based on the power usage, the temperature, average environment temperature, heatsink material, e,t,c. So Im not sure about the efficiency of the heatsink from my design.If anyone who knows mechanical design could provide me with the exact numbers I would update the design and upload the new file.

Based on the file it should be possible to order this heatsink from a shop with CNC router.

Does it matter which side of the board you mount the heatsink/fan too?
