If the usb cable has 28awg on it as nearly all usb cables do, it is not capable of handling the amperage needed. You really need to get a 24awg or 24/28awg cable (24awg power/ 28awg data). The problems you are experiencing are power related, not thermal throttling/shutdown. The main issue is not the usb adapter rating, it is the poor quality usb leads supplied with the adapters. I tried various length leads now only use 250mm usb leads & have never had an issue since.

You could power on/off by setting the pc to sleep when you press the power button & use the latched on/off relay setup in the link, but don't reduce the voltage output :D .

Image faults can be split into 2 catergories Artifacts & Ghosting. Artifacts are usually caused by power issues, heat, faulty memory, drivers, gpu etc. If the display is normal through the HDMI output, theres nothing wrong with those items. Ghosting is usually the result of interference from another...

What do you mean, Display Connector? The part of the ribbon cable that goes into the panda? Edit: here's the pictures of it connected... http://imgur.com/a/1rsoW If you look closely you will see that the ribbon is not pushed into the connector properly. The right hand side needs pushing further in.
