Alpha not bootable from m.2 (SATA) or USB3 - BIOS issues

I might need a BIOS update for the Alpha. This is a big issue, because the whole device is not usable in the state I got it in!

I have trouble booting over an SSD, connected over USB3 or directly used over the m.2 slot (SATA).

I also have trouble recognizing the m.2 (SATA) SSD to work as boot device, it is recognized under the SATA controller tab in the BIOS, but not selectable as boot device or hard drive.

Sometimes the USB adapter is recognized in the BIOS, but most times it is not.
When recognized, Ubuntu will not start. The USB drivers switch to the SDcard reader and loop. No USB drive seen here.

It does work (from the machine I am writing) from an AMD 2400g machine. As USB or m.2 (SATA) drive it boots perfectly and all is recognized in the BIOS of the motherboard.

So I guess it must be the BIOS.

I've got the following information of the current installed BIOS:

BIOS Vendor: Dfrobot
Core Version: 5.12
Compliancy: UEFI 2.6; PI 1.4
Project Version: S70KR 2.00 x64
Build Date and Time: 09/18/2018 18:05:57
Access Level: Administrator
Processor Information: Kabylake ULX
Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)
Type: m3-7Y30 CPU @ 1.00GHz
Speed: 1600 MHz
Microcode Revision: 62
Total Memory: 8192 MB(LPDDR3)
Memory Frequency: 1867 MHz
EC FW Version: 02.0B.07
ME FW Version: 11.6.31.3309

Please help me get this solved somehow!
Thanks in advance
