How can I use a variable speed fan?

Hi,
I'm using my latte panda for medium load stuff and the fan is firing up every minute.

I have bee taking a look to the temperatures and it is a continuous cycle

The temperatures starts to raise and when it gets to 70ºC, the fan kicks in and in a few seconds (I have an aluminium case) it goes down to 57ºC and the fan stops, just to start the cycle again.

I was wondering if there is a way to control the fan speed, I'm guessing that with the fan at half speed the temperature will stay constantly at low 60s and a continuous low level noise is less annoying that the kicking in of the full speed fan every few minutes.

Is there a way to control the speed of the fan?

If there isn't a "native" way any suggestions for using the expansion board to implement it?

Cheers
