If you turned the key to accessory position for a few seconds, the LP would start to boot and when you engaged the starter it could interrupt the boot sequence which could corrupt Windows. You would probably need a big cap on the 12v line to the LP to prevent this problem.
Where can I find the BIOS update?

I found this device here:

http://www.mini-box.com/DCDC-USB?sc=8&category=981

The DCDC-USB can be programmed to output 5V but it can't send shutdown signals via USB. If the mentioned board has On/Off pins you can use the Automotive mode of the DCDC-USB via which it will send On/Off signals.

Does the LP have on/off pins?

Ok, I found the solution: DCDC- NUC + step down regulator.
In the meanwhile I started the project here:

As you can see i'm using a head unit chassis. The LP display and touch panel fits perfectly inside the original frame :)
I read about heatsink problems. Can the LP work with its original heatsink inside the case? Or is better to add a bigger heatsink? I'm planning to add a fan in the back of the chassis...

Idea I had was have cars 12v system regulated down to 5v feeding either a large capacitor bank or a mobile power bank or something that then powers the LP. Have windows set to auto shutdown after say 2 minutes of inactivity. Theres then an arduino onboard already, wire the arduino to detect the ignition position of the car and also to emulate a keyboard. Have it tap say the right alt key on the keyboard once every 30 seconds for as long as the ignition is read as being live, this will keep windows awake for as long as the car is running. Switch ignition off, wait a little while, boom, right alt stops being pressed due to no ignition, then after that windows shuts itself down cleanly.

However it wouldnt automatically start up which is a downside to this approach.

Actually, can anyone confirm something for me. While the board is supplied 5v power but the latte panda is shut down from windows, does the arduino remain powered?
I do not yet have my board and may not until october or even november.

The Arduino remains running when 5V is supplied even when windows is not running.

you can anyway do delay switch, that disconnect the battery after some minutes after disconnecting of power source.
By the way I'm waiting for my LP then my project is alike to get an video/audio player + gps + something else, but will pin on my radio via cd changer port (radio is an audi concert 2 on an audi a3 8p) and control it using radio (player) as got audio in as classical aux + commands through the code. but probably will open other thread on it.
Btw if some1 interested about my project and wanna help, or maybe find some way to approach their own one, can click here.
