Indeed it says 12v on the fan's packaging. I suppose I should have purchased a 5v one but did not see any on eBay...

I received my new heat sinks yesterday, and just tinkered around with them:

For reference: 40x32mm heat sink, small raspi-heat sink, 5V fan
Your fan seems to be a 2-pin one. can you tell us where to connect it?

Here is my "mod". I've choosen a "sucking" notebook fan and a very small/flat heatsink. It is running @1.8V on the 5V line (4xdiodes in row) draining 39mA. It is moving the heat away from the device instead of blowing onto it. It works quite well :-)

In addition, Linux can not compete with Windows on this device! Driver wise and performance wise :-(

The CN2 2-pin connector is directly powered by usb adapter which is mean once you power the board, the fan will start immediately without booting to the Windows.
Anyone here success to find a connection that will control the fan liked normal PC?

Wow guys you blow me away love all of your mods especially @Relampago awesome, could you post your temps with a throttled CPU?

So I've done a cheap as chips version, this cost me £4 (for the fan and the heatsinks) delivered! lol -15c 8-)

Here is my cooling mod

Fan: Noctua NF-A4 FLX 5V
A little pricey but quiet and if you left space for the fan, the cooling is decent, even without a heatsink.

Noctua nice with rubber mounts posh! It looks like your blowing air into rather than out of the LP from the bottom?

Are you planning on running it upside down?

What temps are you getting throttled?

I tried first to suck out the air but the result wasn't that great.
I believe it don't have enough power to really suck the air out of the case.

I am running it vertical. I tried upside down but with vertical I have the best results.

I let run cinebench R15 for a few mins and my max temp was 79° (no throttling at all).
Not bad for not using a heatsink but for 24/7 100% usage maybe not good enough.
For normal usage I have temps from 44° to 64°. And like I said, the fan is very quiet.
