programming external Arduino boards

Programming the internal Arduino Leonardo works well but I want to program other Arduinos (UNO (AVR), Due(ARM) etc. attached externally. Can I compile in LP and then upload the binary through USB/Serial (Say an FTDI-232) or ICSP?
