Popping when playing sounds...

Every time the computer plays sounds through speakers it starts with a loud popping sound. It sounds a lot like the speakers are getting unplugged and plugged back in.
I've powered the speaker using micro USB 5v 2A power supply. I've also tried powering the computer using the CN2 headers just like the forum post says. I've used a few different sets of speakers all externally powered but the popping still happens.
Is there something else I should try?
