Two LPA, one seems dead...

I have bought two LattePanda Alpha 864s, first one is working like a charm, the second one seems to be dead reight out of the box. When connecting USB-C, no blue LED, no red LED lights up. Same with 12V DC connector.
I did not check the CR927 battery but I would assume that even when it is drained, at least the board should light up the LEDs when connected to power, right?
Any hint what else could be checked before returning the board?
