Lattepanda 3 Delta UPS HAT not charging

I have the three battery UPS installed and arduino set up.
However the battery constantly shows 0%.
The UBS hat is powered by 12.25V via barrel jack.
The batteries are brand new.
Anybody has a hint what could cause this?
