Unable to get PCIE card to show up in lattepanda mu w/ carrier lite board

I purchased a latte panda mu n305 w/ carrier lite board.

I initially plugged in the module and got the basics of the bios setup then tried to plug in my PCIe card, however the system never recognizes it.

I'm using the DC plug I bought with the board.

Cards I've tried: intel x710-bm2, intel x550-t2.

I've tested the cards themselves and they work fine in another system. I'm not sure what I'm missing in mu to make the system not see them at all, and the docs I've been able to find have been less than helpful.
