IOTA Hot and Unresponsive

I am not sure if my device is defective of if something is wrong with my config.

- I have purchased a LattePanda IOTA 16GB with Win11 Enterprise License. - I installed it in the official Aluminum Case with Intel BE200 WiFi card.- Reduced the power in the bios to 8W / 12W, since I am using a passive case. - In windows power settings, I selected balance and deactivated every option to save power except for the cpu state.
- I power the device with USB C using a 240W UGreen cable and 65W charger.

When I boot up the device everything is working as expected. So far the OS is still bare, I didn't install anything. I mostly did Windows update and used Edge Browser. Under normal use the aluminum case barely get warm.

The issue is that after few days the device become unresponsive (black screen) and the heatsink become very hot (50c+).
From there the only thing I could do is removing the power. After that the device boot again and start working normally. The heatsink cool down until it get warm to the touch.

I looked into the Windows Event Manager and there is nothing out of the ordinary, there is critical error when I unplugged the power, but that is expected. Other than that, there is a bunch of error about Secure Boot but I am not using it.

I am trying now to get more details of when this happens by displaying a clock on the display and recording with a camera, hopefully I might be able to get a blue screen or something.

I would appreciate any help on this matters or let me know if you think this device is defective. Thanks.

I changed the power to 10W/10W and it seems better. With a 1080p stream playing I now have average temperature of 55c. It still sometime throttle is something else is running in the background like an update. Using the HWInfo stress test, it only takes seconds to go from 55c to 80c. Then it is also very fast to get from 80c to 55c. Thermal paste coverage is good, but 1mm of thermal paste is absolutely terrible versus 1mm of aluminum. I think tolerance of the aluminum case are off.

Hello there, based on your description, the symptoms (black screen + heatsink warming while unresponsive) suggest the system may be entering an abnormal low-power state rather than a hardware defect. Here are the most likely causes:
1. Disable Modern Standby
Win11's S0 Low Power Idle can cause display/power state conflicts in passive configurations.
→ Run as Admin in CMD:
powercfg /setacvalueindex scheme_current sub_sleep allowstandby 0
powercfg /setactive scheme_current

Then set "Sleep" to Never in Power Options.

2. Update Intel BE200 Driver
Please ensure you're using the latest WiFi driver from Intel's official site (not Windows Update), as early drivers may have power-management bugs.

3. Temporarily Pause Windows Update
Go to Settings > Windows Update > Pause for 7 days to rule out background update tasks triggering thermal/load spikes.

If possible, please run a lightweight logger like HWMonitor to capture CPU temp/power usage over 24h. This helps us correlate the hang with specific load/thermal patterns.
