1. Do you “need” these? I’m not sure, but seeing as those two wires control the communication between the battery and the LattePanda, even if you could power the LattePanda without them, you wouldn’t get a battery percentage, and I don’t know if charging would work. I’m not sure why you’d want to get rid of these wires, but I wouldn’t advise trying it.

2. Absolutely, you can use that battery. I bought the very same one for my LattePanda and it works fine.

3. Yes, the battery can be charged via the LattePanda’s USB C port.

Hope this helps. Just note, unlike applying power through the USB C port, the LEDs on the LattePanda (at least for me) don’t go to solid red with a blue flash, instead the red glows as with USB C power, but then both LEDs go off. Holding the power button boots the LattePanda as normal.

You need to make sure you use an adapter that is rated as a 'Power Delivery" one. These are usually labeled multi-voltage and current. Especially when powering over USB-C. Another adapter may damage the Alpha. Proceed with caution.

LP Alpha's internal charging circuit's CC setting is 1.89A. For a 3800 mAH battery pack, charging from empty to full will be approx 2 hours.
Note the cited battery pack (as used in Cubie i7, and i9) is 38 Watt-hour type.
How long will the battery last? That depend on actual usage. LP Alpha can go in between 8 Watts and 20 Watts (without additional peripherals or under stress test.)
38/8 ~= 4.5 hours in optimal case, and in heavy use, less than 2 hours.
